There Can Be No True Understanding of God’s Love Apart From The Cross

“You see, at the right time, when were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this; While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” [Romans 5:6-8] There can be no true understanding of God’s love apart from the cross.

There’s nothing vague or undermined about God’s love. The words “at just the right time” speak of the eternal nature of this love. It was planned in eternity and worked out in a divinely appointed timetable. Christ’s death on the cross was totally planned by God. Divine love didn’t originate at Bethlehem when Jesus was born, but it stretched back before the creation of the world. There had been many tokens of this love to men and women, but the cross was the most glorious demonstration possible, especially when we realize who the objects of God’s love are. In Romans five, Paul describes the recipients of this amazing love as powerless, ungodly and sinners.”
